Sweetest Park Bathroom

photos via artbite.fr
I couldn’t resist posting on the sweetest public, park bathroom of all time. Shuhei Endo (the architect) said that the structure is “’springtecture’ for its apparently sprung, coiled corrugated-steel enclosure, and as ‘halftecture’ because it is both open and closed.” I just like the curly metal.
A Passive House

I’d never really heard of a “passive house” until about a month ago. I think it’s a great ideal, but it sounds like one more policy to adhere to or one more government program waiting to happen. I haven’t been involved with one yet, but I do hear that there is one being built in Utah now. Check it out at http://www.passivehouse.us.
The Architect’s Newspaper
The Architect’s Newspaper is looking like a great find. The blog also seems to be very worthwhile. Apparently, there is a New York edition to the newspaper and a California edition… I’m not sure where Salt Lake City was forgotten, but BIG mistake. I found myself cruising through their blog for quite a while.
Rolling Architecture… The Motorhome

My wife and I just back from a delightful vacation to Jackson, Wyoming. It was quite the drive, but my brother and sister-in-law let us borrow their sweet motorhome. It made the trip even that much better, and it got me thinking about a “modern” sort of motorhome. Check out the Knaus S-Liner. I can’t believe how cool the pics are. I can’t believe what a nightmare it would be to drive in traffic.
290 Square Feet for 5 Large
CPM Construcciones Prefabricadas has created a prefab house that costs only $5,000. I wish I could say I knew any more, but I’m pretty impressed. Some of the windows are even shaped and spaced differently- like it’s actually been designed. CPM is based out of Bogota, Colombia, but there’s room for more stuff like this here in the states.
Seinfield and Architecture
Shout out to Seinfield. My wife and I can’t get enough of it.
Keratuer Doors
I sure wish that I could read German. The website for Keratuer Doors that I found was only in German- bummer. I think it’s very refreshing to see a new take on the door, and I’ve yet to find a company that does it as well as Keratuer.
Home Theater
Said to have cost about $3.4 million this theater is worth more than most of us make in 30 years, but who doesn’t need 24 12-inch sub-woofers?? I’m a huge fan of home theaters, but obviously they don’t have to be this extreme. I like how dark the rooms are and how clear the sound is, but with two little girls growing up I’d have to put a turret mounted machine gun in mine.
More “Ugliest House Contestants”
Ok, so the whole “ugly house” thing has sparked my interest. I know that there is a house on 7th East, here in Salt Lake City, that has my vote; but here are a few ugly houses that I found for your delight and viewing:

Businessweek.com’s Ugliest House Winner Announced!!

I got a kick out of the article, about this monster house, in Businessweek.com and the LA Times. 32,000 square feet of nightmare is what it sounds like to me. If nothing else, it’s pretty cool that the pool goes inbetween two sections of the house and all the way in to the front yard. I’m not sure this is LEED approved… or passive. But, in the end, ugly is in the eye of the beholder- what do you think of the house?
