North Clad Aluminum Panel Series
So the more we get to know each other, the more you’ll discover my man crush on Richard Meier. I would sell a limb to live in the Douglas House, but I digress. One of the looks that he creates on his houses is the white grid, and one way to create that look one your house is the North Clad rain screen. They have several options, but I liked the Aluminum Series. Your house could also qualify for LEED credits by using it:
- Green Building Assistance & LEED® Credit Potential.
- Base material contains 50%+ recycled content. LEED® MR Credit 4.
- Several paint options with SRI value greater than 29. LEED® SS Credit 7.
- All products are 100% recyclable to assist in waste stream diversion. LEED® MR Credit 2.
- Manufactured in the Pacific Northwest by a local workforce.
On the North Clad website they’ve got some good pictures to get a feel for the scale and to get some creative juices flowing. I may just rip the brick off my house to put up their rain screen.
Metal Pro Roofing’s Standing Seam
Metal Pro Roofing has a very impressive lineup of metal roofs. For the modern look on top of your house the “standing seam” is the answer. It looks great and I found out a metal roof can “make your home more energy efficient by up to 30% or more.” And check this out:
Recycled Materials: This is a roof you can feel good about. Around 56% of the materials come from recycled content. Every ton of steel that is recycled saves 2,500 pounds of iron ore, 1,400 pounds of coal, and 120 pounds of limestone. Steel made from recycled materials uses as little as 26% of the energy required to make steel from raw materials.
There are tax credits that you can qualify for, their metal roof has a 50 year warranty, it’s made of 24-gauge steel and when its life on earth is over- you can recycle it. I’m sold. The only problem is ponying up for the initial cost, but because they last so long it does pay for itself.
Emtek’s Round Knob
Finding a modern way to open doors is one of the trickiest things for me. I’m attracted to this Emtek number, though. It’s straightforward, simple and good quality. Emtek stuff is always available in a bunch of colors- probably stainless steel being numero uno- and it retails for $105.00 ea. If anybody’s seen a better door knob out there, let me know, I’m always lookin’.
Hunter Douglas Whisper Motors
I have a dream some day of having a house that looks like this picture without all of the chairs- this room would be my kitchen. How sweet to push a button and all of the shades go dropping down. These motors can handle shades that are 20 feet wide and 12 feet tall, and they are designed to operate below the level of “quiet office conversation.” You’re all invited to the housewarming party when my dream comes true. Check out Hunter Douglas for more info.
